Naive

Lithuania isn’t normally be a country that jumps to mind when people are asked to suggest a source for fine chocolate. However, Naive are one of Europe’s finest craft chocolate makers. The problem is they certainly don’t get the attention they deserve.

Naive are proponents of the ‘Slow Food’ movement which aims to use as many locally sourced and ethically produced ingredients. Most of the ingredients they use in their shop in rural Lithuania, by the banks of lake Kiementas, are grown within a 10km radius, mainly from their own herb garden. Obviously that doesn’t include the cocoa beans used to create the chocolate as they as currently originate from Grenada and Uganda.

Naive also have a very strong ethical seam running through their company. They actively employ underprivileged and marginalised people. They also have an open door policy where anyone can visit their production facility and inspect how they make chocolate and ice cream.

I hope you’re as excited about Naive’s chocolate as I am. They’re a special company that makes very special chocolate.
