As I continue my quick reviews of the Zotter chocolate bars that I seemingly managed to buy every different version they stocked at the time … I move on to the very strange Bacon Bits bar. After I bought this bar Chocri have launched in the UK and offer bacon bits as an optional topping. I love bacon bits on the top of pizza, but with chocolate?
I’ve mentioned the external appearance of the bars in the past so I’ll go straight on to the internal and I must admit it didn’t get me drooling in anticipation. I think it was partly due to the fact that I’m reviewing the bacon bits bar slightly after the best before date, but the actual inside looked like pâté. I had second thoughts about actually reviewing it, but I have to take the rough with the smooth I gave it a go.
The aroma reminded me of WH Smiths stores, a sort of dry papery smell that wasn’t too appealing, whilst the first bite had a strange sweetness to it but then had a weird crystallised crunch to it which I really didn’t like. I think this was crushed hazelnuts, but it could have been the dried pork crackling too. Why do I do this too myself?
Even though this was only ever meant to be a quick review and I’ve only had a small nibble, I feel I’ve had enough. I’ll give it a 30% as it’s just not my cup of tea. In fact I need a cuppa to take the taste away and allow me to move on to the next Zotter bar in my list of quick reviews … the Zitronenpolenta.
