Ara Peru Chuncho is a rich and creamy dark chocolate. Andres, Ara’s chief chocolate maker, has exclusively used rare Peruvian Chuncho cacao from the Cusco region.
The cacao mainly grows high in the La Convención Province of Cusco in Peru’s southern highlands. Chuncho cacao is named after the indigenous people who inhabited the area even before the arrival of the Incas. The local population has cultivated and used the cacao for centuries, thus leading people to suggest the plants may have evolved in the region. The Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture is now starting to catalogue the amazing genetic variety of chuncho cacao, as well as all Peruvian varietals.
An intensely creamy chocolate that recalls the richest chocolate mousse and freshly made cheese cake. While the notes of fresh, thick cream dominate the bar isn’t cloying. Finally a gentle curl of lemon comes through as the bar melts away.
