This limited edition bar was specially made by Hogarth and packaged exclusively for Cocoa Runners.
A complex bar, the dark chocolate starts off on a rich, chocolatey note. There are hints of chocolate pudding or fondant about the the flavour. A touch of honey gives a pleasant sweetness and mixes nicely into the bar’s creaminess. Undertones of fudge in the bar’s texture and taste build.
As the chocolate develops we detected a muddier, almost earthy dimension come to the surface. The initial silkiness recedes and leaves a little dryness and touch of tannin on the tongue. Sweet but not smokey tobacco finishes the bar.
Hogarth sources its Venezuelan beans from Casa Franceschi, the renowned family-owed cocoa trading house. The cacao is grown by small holder farmers in Caranero in Miranda Province.
Most of these farms are just a few hectares so farmers don’t produce enough beans to get the fermentation going properly. Instead, they sell the wet beans to Franceshi who combine them with beans from other small farms in the region and ferment them all together.
