Lucocoa Haiti is a delicate dark chocolate full of fruit and citrus.
Lucocoa has worked with Uncommon Cacao in order to source cacao beans all the way from Haiti. Produits Des Iles SA (PISA) is a relatively new cacao processor and exporter in the North of Haiti. PISA works with around 1,500 different farmers, approximately a third of which are female. The average farm size is fairly small, but by grouping together in this association the farmers can leverage a better price for beans. On top of this PISA manages fermentation and drying for the farmers, which enables better practices and higher income.
Ama and Andy started Lucocoa in December 2014. Based in North London, there pair were the first bean-to-bar chocolate makers to launch in the capital. The idea was to create bars that were compatible with Ama’s loves of both chocolate and exercise. She came up with the tagline Not Naughty / Just Nice to express how Lucocoa’s bars are better for you but without compromising on flavour.
This sweet dark chocolate blends fruits with richer notes. A touch of coffee on the opening reveals raisins and brown sugar. Then hints of rum and ripe banana open up and lead to a squeeze of orange.
