Fredrik and Ulrika name their summer of 2013 as the “vacation that never ended”. When in Österlen, a small Swedish village, making a quick pitstop for a cup of coffee, the pair fortuitously left with the keys to a 19th century red brick school building. This had been the confectionary factory Österlenchoklad. Fredrik and Ulrika left their busy lives in the city for their new home in the Swedish countryside.
Three months after purchasing the factory, the couple founded Svenska Kakaobolaget – “The Swedish Cacao Company”.
The cacao for this chocolate had been sourced from Coop-id, a leading small-batch provider of Ceylon aromatic cacao. The cacao is grown in farms in Matale in central Sri Lanka.
This 70% dark chocolate delights with its fudgy texture and bright flavour. The chocolate opens up right away with stoned fruit, during the melt it bursts forth with rich notes of coffee and liquorice with a slight sour tang. Unique and utterly delightful, this chocolate certainly intrigues the palate. The finishes lingers a slight astringency, which calms the superb acidity of this chocolate.
