The cacao comes from the Sur del Lago de Maracaibo subregion of Venezuela. This region is located to the south of Lake Maracaibo (technically not a lake but a brackish bay) and is famous for fine flavour cacao.
The Chocolate Tree have specifically sourced these Porcelana beans from a few single estate farms in North Western Sur de Lago. The premium bean has strong Criollo characteristics, which gives the fruit a lighter colour and the chocolate a complex flavour.
